What Are the Friends’ Contributions?
The Friends raised $100,000 in 2009 and generated $1 million in income for the Troy Public Library between 1998-2009!
In 2009 the Friends contributed 10,413 hours of service to the Troy Library and a total of 48,344 hours since 2003!
Funds raised by the Friends make more than 400 library programs possible annually. Programs such as Writing Workshops, Summer Reading, Computer Classes, and Cultural & Fine Arts Programs – are all totally FREE to the public due to the Friends’ support.
A $5,000 gift to fund the Special Needs Collection was presented to the library in the fall of 2006. The collection consists of educational materials and toys for special needs children and items for post-stroke rehabilitation for seniors.
The Friends recently provided $10,000 for Youth Services computers and software. In 1984, they provided $60,000 for the library expansion.
Outreach
The Friends actively participate in various community outreach projects. In 2009 the Friends donated over 800 boxes of books to more than 40 organizations, such as:
- Inner City Schools (Detroit, Pontiac, etc.)
- Boys and Girls Club
- Senior Centers
- VA Hospitals throughout Michigan
- Peace Corps
- Teach America
- Wayne and Oakland County Jails
- Civic, Faith and Social Service groups
